Audouin Birding Tours is based in NE Spain (Catalunya), on the edge of the Ebro delta. After several years of guiding for other companies, Cristian Jensen Marcet and Iben Hove Sørensen established the company in 2005 to be able to offer their own tours and activities.

The main focus of Audouin Birding Tours is the lands surrounding the Ebro River, including the huge Ebro Delta and the mountain chains Els Ports and Montsia, but tours are planned throughout Spain. Well-known as well as less visited birding localities are explored, and suggestions for new destinations are always welcome. The aim of Audouin Birding Tours is to provide fellow bird watchers with high quality birding and great experiences, and we welcome birders with all levels of experience. All trips and day excursions will be arranged considering the experience and general preferences of the participating customers – we are just as happy to spend a day searching for a single elusive species as we are enjoying the abundant shorebirds of the Ebro Delta. We are able to offer guidings in English, Spanish, Catalan, and Danish.

Situated 200 km south-west of Barcelona (NE Spain), the Ebro Delta is the most important wetland area on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, and the second largest in all the Iberian Peninsula. It is an extensive, flat marsh area at the mouth of the river Ebro. The delta was formed by sediments transported seawards by the river, making a rich land for agriculture. Today, most of the flooded land is cultivated with rice fields. Despite being dominated by human activities, the delta attracts thousands of birds throughout the year.

The delta contains several big lagoons (the largests in Catalonia) of varying salinity, depth and vegetation types; perfect for providing food for several species of birds.

Els Ports Nature Park

The Ports Nature Park is comprised of the Ports limestone massif; a large mountain chain with beautiful rivers, caves, gorges, and peaks well above 1000 m (Mont Caro at 1 442 m is the highest point). The Ports massif is situated close to the Mediterranean coast where it rises at the far eastern end of the Ebro region 200 km southwest of Barcelona (Catalonia). With its total extension of 60 000 Ha, the mountain chain spreads into no less than three of the Spanish territories (Catalonia, Aragon, and Valencia) and earlier served as a natural borderline. The park covers a wide variety of habitats, and several unusual species of plants, insects, amphibians, reptiles and mammals inhabit this complex limestone kingdom. Offering scenic routes, exciting climbs and waterfalls, as well as spectacular views of rare birds and mammals, the Ports attract hikers, climbers, painters and nature lovers alike – and there is enough space for everyone.
